1962 Jaguar E-Type SI
Seller's description
Model history
The E Type is the result of all of the experience acquired by Jaguar in the 50s with their road and race cars.
Jaguar’s road car master piece was unveiled at the 1961 Geneva show and was designed by Malcom Sayer, its fabulous lines being inspired by the D Type, XK SS and more significantly by the 2A prototype seen at Le Mans in 1960. The car was built around a steel monocoque chassis with a bolted frame at the front, supporting the engine and suspension. The power train is the one that was used in the XK150 and MKIX, a 3.8liter unit producing 265hp.
The sculptural body lines make the car unique and this is one of the rare cars which is nicer as a coupé than a convertible.
The car was an immediate success due to its impressive performance ( 230km/h as top speed - the standing km in 28sec ) and its affordable price, less than half of a Ferrari 250.
The Series 1 3.8 model is the most beautiful, regularly voted as one of the top 5 best coupés ever.
