2011 Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0
Seller's description
The first high-performance GT3 road models of the 997 generation were the GT3 and the GT3 RS, launched in 2006. The GT3 featured a 3.6 litre flat-six engine, ‘zero lift’ aerodynamics, and an electronically adjustable suspension system. The GT3 RS, 20 kg lighter than the GT3, had a wider rear end which improved directional stability and cornering grip.
In 2009 Porsche launched the second generation 997 GT3, boasting an enlarged 3.8 litre engine, modified rear spoiler and bodywork, and new options including dynamic engine mounts and a pneumatically lifting front axle to compensate for the low ground clearance. The following year, the new GT3 was joined by a revised version of the GT3 RS.
The GT3 RS 4.0, announced in 2011, was the final evolution of the 997. Featuring the biggest 911 model line engine ever, it was limited to just 600 vehicles and brought together in a road car all the attributes that have made the GT3 a serial winner on the race track. Sensationally fast and truly exciting to drive, its crankshaft was lifted unchanged from the GT3 RSR racing car.
With a six-speed sports transmission it was the last manual 911, and used suspension components typically encountered in motor racing. Weight reduction was of supreme importance, hence lightweight components such as bucket seats, bonnet and front wings made of carbon fibre, plastic rear windows and weight-optimised carpets.
Its wide track, low vehicle position, large rear wing with adapted side plates, central twin tailpipe and aerodynamically optimised body, resulted in a uniquely dynamic appearance. It was also the first production Porsche to feature lateral front air deflection vanes (or ‘flics’), which created increased downforce on the front axle and brought the vehicle into aerodynamic equilibrium.

EXTERIOR
This limited edition RS is finished in a pristine coat of solid black paint which presents in flawless condition with a mirror finish. It is totally original from factory and has never been painted. The colour coding on this example is well matched with the silver stripes and decals, front air flics and wheels contrasting exquisitely against the black body work.
The Red RS badge further ties in with the red stripes and detail on the mirrors.
INTERIOR
Although bearing more than a passing resemblance to the Cup variant with a roll cage, this interior offers all modern day-to-day considerations. There are no unsightly marks to the seats, and the interior trim is free from chips or marks; inclusive of sill strips, gearbox tunnel and pedal box.
The driving position is absolutely spot on with the carbon backed seats combining sublime levels of comfort with excellent road holding. Extended leather, PCM, front lift and mobile phone prep add luxury to this track inspired limited production model.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The GT3 RS’s 4-litre engine is the largest and last of the mezger engine 911s. It provides jaw-dropping performance, and when combined with the six-speed manual sports transmission, an incredible driving experience to be admired for many future generations to come.
The engine is in fine fettle having last been serviced at 5,223 miles. The car also underwent a rev range check with no ignitions stored in any of the rev range parameters.
Clutch / gear engagement are positive and whilst entirely manageable around town, the ‘box is an absolute joy to use when pressing on; with a bolt action throw and perfect pedal positions for heel and toe.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The silver centre lock lightweight alloy wheels present perfectly with no curb marks or scuffs. These are wrapped in new Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres all round.
Brakes are in excellent condition with the revered PCCB working at their best when up to temperature. All four corners maintain plenty of pad material and show good disc life.
