2016 Porsche 911 GT3 RS
Seller's description
MODEL HISTORY
The ‘RS’ badge holds the greatest fascination for Porsche fans and has been applied sparingly to 6 generations of Porsche cars since the 70s instantly turning these machines into motoring legends.
First introduced in 1972 to homologate the 911 Carrera 2.7. Porsches focus has never changed throughout the decades and each RS car goes through a strict weight loss program focused on race series homologation or more recently, in creating the ultimate in track focused driving tools.
Porsche launched the RS version of the 991 GT3 at the Geneva Motor Show in 2015. It featured wide front wings equipped with louvers above the wheels with the rear wings to include Turbo-like intakes, rather than an intake below the rear wing. The roof is made from magnesium saving vital weight up high and as such improving its centre of gravity.
The 3.8-litre unit found in the 991 GT3 is replaced with a 4.0-litre unit with 500 horsepower, the transmission is PDK only. As with the 991 GT3, there is rear-axle steering and Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus with fully variable rear axle differential lock. The Nürburgring Nordschleife time is and would be a terrifying 7 minutes and 20 seconds.
The interior includes full bucket seats (based on the carbon seats of the 918 Spyder), carbon-fibre inserts, lightweight door handles and the Club Sport Package as standard.

EXTERIOR
Draped in a mesmerising shade of Miami blue, a rare Porsche ‘Paint to sample’ colour, this RS truly stands out over and above the rest. Arguably one of the best colours to suit the aggressive and wide lines of the latest technological achievement of the great sports car manufacturer.
This teutonic weapon stands as new, delivered in March and with only delivery miles.
With its huge rear wing, lightweight glass and perspex side and rear window there is no doubting that this car is made for a sole purpose. Every styling addition is there for effect not looks, It’s front wing louvres double downforce at the front meaning a larger rear wing can be used to provide a balance across the whole car. The large side air intakes create a ram effect for the engine, once placed on the back of the RS car it’s now at the side utilising ‘cleaner’ air than that flowing over the roof – an audible benefit too as the induction from the engine travels further through the car adding to the driving sensation!
The magnesium sculpted roof is a highlight, never before constructed for any road or even race car, and an entirely new process of construction that saves just 1 kg (but just in the right place) than a carbon fibre alternative such was Porsche commitment to perfection.
INTERIOR
Beautifully appointed the 991 RS features carbon sculpted 918 body hugging sports seats and a cabin fused by the very best materials available.
The interior features a host of Porsche exclusive options increasing the abundance of alcantara to the roof lining, sun visors and door trims. The dash is trimmed in leather with contrasting silver stitching that continues and adds definition throughout the car right through to the silver belts and door pulls. Illuminated carbon fibre door sills greet driver and passenger on entry while a host of tech including digital radio, Nav, bluetooth and online services all played through an upgraded sound system provide entertainment and connectivity.
At the business end, white dials adorn the instrument cluster along with the optional Sport Chrono plus package with link to the Porsche track precision and lap trigger app. The standard speed limiter button sits close alongside, traction/stability control, switchable exhaust and suspension pre sets.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The 4.0 litre engine is hidden from view under black plastic and twin fans however it’s every bit as special and matches the technical and advanced construction of the rest of the car.
While previous generations of GT3 and GT3 RS variants shared engine components this is not the case for the 991. There is a different crankshaft, its material is only used on the 919 LMP1 racecars – a highly clean metal that is melted and solidified several times to get it as pure as possible and more durable, different con-rods, pistons, camshafts, cam springs and oil system all make up this masterful and very special 500bhp unit.
The PDK 7 speed box is the latest in Porsche rapid fire drivetrain development, punching through the gears in a seamless and continuous fashion.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The tyre sizes on the new 911 GT3 RS are nothing short of impressive: 265/35 ZR 20 on 9.5 J x 20 at the front, 325/30 ZR 21 on 12.5 J x 21 at the rear.
An un-compromised decision from boss Andreas Preuniger it was a must to use the same setup as the 918 Spyder for outright mechanical grip despite all initial CAD mock ups showing they would not fit. Suspension and body changes were all necessary along with expensive adjustments to the production line as the car was too wide! The result of the 20/21 inch combination is sensational showing added pitch combined with maximum track width on the rear.
Massive optional PCCB brakes sit pride of place behind the multi spoke anthracite wheels providing insane stopping power in conjunction with the SportMaxx contact patch.
