Sadly, 2016 is set to be the end of the road for the Land Rover Defender. Which is almost ironic considering that a road coming to an end has never stopped a Land Rover before. The company does plan a replacement for the Defender and has teased concepts like the DC100, but the uproar it caused resulted in Land Rover parking the concept in a backroom somewhere in Solihull and heading back to the drawing board.
The Defender and the Series I, II and III models that came before it are major automotive icons – right up there with the Porsche 911, the Mini, the Beetle, the Mustang, the Aston Martin DB5. This icon status means that there are a lot of people in the world who’ll get very upset if the design team at Land Rover drop a new design that lands too far from its inspiration.
Dating back to 1948 after the conclusion of WWII, Land Rover began building legendary off-road vehicles that competed with the United States’ Willys Jeep.
The Defender itself first debuted in 1983 and came in no less than three wheel base lengths and several cab and bed configurations. A favorite among British farmers, the pickup truck version offered plenty of hauling capabilities while still offering all the off-road prowess needed to traverse muddy barn lots and rock-strewn streams.
As the years have rolled on, the Defender has remained relatively unchanged – never adopting a more modern design or electronic gadgetry. Emissions and safety regulations mean that time is running out for the famous four-wheel-drive machine, with production wounded down last January.

Interestingly enough, the Defender name was one of its additions, coming in 1990. Before that, the vehicle was simply called by its wheelbase length; 90, 110, and 127.
This Autobiography Edition..
Land Rover is celebrating the venerable Defender SUV with a few special edition Defenders such as this top-notch Autobiography Edition.
Fitted with more power from its diesel engine, a two-tone paint, and a bunch of interior adornment.
The Autobiography Edition comes with such luxuries as a full Windsor Leather interior with Semi Aniline leather seats complete with twin-needle contrast stitching, 16-inch gloss black alloy wheels, LED projector beam headlights.
EXTERIOR
Things on the exterior are just as they should be: rugged and classic. This Autobiography edition is in Bering Grey color on the lower body while the hood and upper body is in a glossy black.
The 16-inch Sawtooth wheels are dressed in a matching glossy black and hold aggressive Goodyear Wrangler MT/R tires.
A side step helps occupants with entering and exiting the Defender, along with protecting the rocker panels from off-road damage. Extra thick skidplating helps protect the vulnerable bits like oil pans, drive shafts, and fuel tanks.

INTERIOR
The interior of the Autobiography Edition are all a cut above the regular Defender. A full leather treatment from Windsor Leather includes Semi Aniline on the seats while the headliner and other bits are covered in similar materials. The central information panel on the dash is coated in Santorini Black while the instruction plate for the differential lock is machined to a bright finish. Sun metal discs sit at the bottom of each cupholder for an added touch.
DRIVING EXPERIENCE
We have had many Land Rover Defender’s to use for towing our trailers to pick up and deliver cars. We just love these cars and never ever will have a period without a Defender, but there are always moments that we are in doubt to replace and we certainly had it when we saw this amazing Defender Autobiography. It is absolutely amazing how this Defender looks on the outside but it is even more special on the inside. What ana amazing car.
The Defender Autobiography Edition acts as a great send-off to a legendary machine that practically put Land Rover’s name on the map. Its extra bits of luxury help it appeal to those looking for a collection piece or something to explore the countryside in with relative comfort. The additional horsepower is a welcome addition as well.
The exclusive Autobiography Edition provides more comfort, equipment and performance than any previous model. Its unique combination of interior and exterior features and special paint palette guarantee to make the Autobiography the most desirable Defender ever produced.
A power upgrade from 122PS to 150PS guarantees performance will live up to the promise of its eye-catching looks and exclusive appearance. Striking duo-tone paintwork is the most obvious of the Autobiography’s unique features, but the most desirable Defender ever built includes a host of tasteful additions.
