2011 Porsche 911 GT3 Grand-Am

2011 Porsche 911 GT3 Grand-Am

Seller's description

Offered is a factory GT3 Cup car which ran in the 2011 IMSA (International Sports Association) Cup Car Series. Subsequently it was purchased by Paul Miller Racing Team for the famous 24 Hours of Daytona of that 2012, a gruelling 24-hour sports car endurance race held annually at Daytona International Speedway on a 3.56-mile closed track combining parts of the NASCAR oval and an infield road course.
Paul Miller Racing rebuilt the car from the ground up to Grand-Am specification (Grand-Am was the US Endurance Racing sanctioning body). The team retained the 3.8 Cup engine but upgraded the gearbox and suspension to RSR items from the team’s stock of parts for their ALMS (American Le Mans Series) RSR. The car was assigned #48 and presented in the striking Chopard livery that remains on the car. The driver line up was stellar with a professional only line-up consisting of Rob Bell (GB), Sascha Maassen (D), Bryce Miller (USA) and Mark Wilkins (CDN).
Bryce Miller is on record confirming this as the best car he’d ever driven at Daytona. Miller started 9th on the GT grid (23rd overall) with the high point of the car’s race coming just after nightfall when Bell drove #48 into the top five. Unfortunately two other cars came together at Daytona's bus stop chicane in the fifth hour, one of which came back on track hitting Bell in the rear who was running fourth in the GT category having completed 224 laps. The impact damaged the suspension which required a right rear upright, trailing arm and axle. Sadly the repair took just over an hour which put the car out of contention for the victory. As this was the only Grand-Am event the team planned for 2012, continuing the race was not an option so the car was retired from the race around midnight finishing 52nd.
In 2014 TRG (The Racers Group) in California sold the car on behalf of Paul Miller Racing to the current British owner who then entrusted Intersport Racing to prepare the car for selected use in both Britcar and the Dutch Supercar Challenge. The gearbox was rebuilt in September 2015 by renowned Porsche race specialists Muehlner Motorsport of Spa, Belgium. Muehlner also replaced the piston unit for the clutch operator, the clutch bearing, oil/water heat exchanger and fitted a new Bosch starter. With just 2 races since, the gearbox has had less than 4 hours running since its rebuild. Of note it features a custom-made silenced exhaust system to allow it to run in regulated events.
