Lancia swept the World Rally Championship titles with the Fulvia, the Stratos, and finally the Delta Integrale in the late 1980s and the early 1990s. Considering that the design was too commonplace, Marco Pedracini developed a more sporty design based on the Delta Integrale. With the FIAT Group refusing to underwrite it, it was eventually Paul Koot (the Dutch importer of the brand) who decided to support the program. The first prototype, designed by Zagato, was unveiled at the Brussels Show in 1992.
The base of the chassis was almost identical to that of a 16V Delta Integrale, the engine power was boosted to 250bhp, and the design sporty and elegant. In order to minimize the weight of the car, the body is entirely made of aluminum and carbon fibre was widely used inside the car, on the dashboard, the center console and the door panels. The result was a reduction of 200 kg compared to the Delta Integrale. These changes gave the car a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 5.4 seconds only. After an initial agreement with Lancia to launch a production of 500 units, the carmaker changed its mind. This forced Paul Koot to buy Delta Integrales, strip off the body completely and finally produce the Hyena as we see it on these pages. This is the only one in Zagato green, carrying the signature of the coachbuilder on the flank. Having never been in an accident, and coming with all manuals and books, it is in almost a new condition, as the odo displays just 7,000 km. In short, a very stylish and exclusive car, as well as very rare!
