1979 Porsche 911 by Theon
Seller's description
MODEL HISTORY
A Restomod (restoration + modern parts/technology) draws from all the considerable advancements in automobile technology over the past 40+ years to enhance the performance, comfort and safety of the classic car. A restomod car has the timeless appearance of the original but the outdated internals of the car have been replaced with the more modern, high-performance parts of today.
Well known names such as, Autofarm, Paul Stephens with PS Autoart and Singer have been resto-modifying 911′s for some time now; combining classic bodywork design with bespoke interiors and various engine / drive train combinations. It provides the ultimate in choice for the customer that will not compromise with huge man hours dedicated to creating a true one-off.
Theon Design launched its first car in 2015 after spending two years developing and refining its introduction model to create a car with a difference. The brainchild of Adam Hawley, a 10 year veteran in car design, who has worked across Europe and the UK for prestigious marques. Adam had a vision to design and build a car to his specification drawing on a range of influences to create a machine that was like no other. As Ferry Porsche once said “In the beginning I looked around but couldn’t find the car I dreamt of, so I decided to built it myself”.
EQUIPMENT
Hand Stitched semi analine leather interior, Bespoke body modifications, Porsche motorsport RS engine, Fuchsfelge 17 inch wheels, Custom coilovers, Quilted diamond stitched storage and engine bay compartment, Electric windows, Front strut brace, Stereo with AUX input.
EXTERIOR
This tribute to iconic 70′s design begins with the gorgeous period Stone Grey paintwork; a stunning colour that travels in appearance dependent upon conditions. The basis behind the resto-modification was initially formed around a 930 Turbo, soon evolving into a square edge design to mimic the flair and presence of the RSR race car using composite materials and carbon fibre. The presentation of special 911 variants has always involved a two-tone colourway and the Orange sign writing seen here sits beautifully against the grey background.
With an almost caricature presence the low slung bodywork, deep dish Fuchs and impossibly wide arches collide to present a unique appeal that transcends generations young and old.
INTERIOR
The Tan leather interior sits as a beautiful contrast to the bodywork, trimmed by none other than Lol Smith; responsible for fitting out Vladimir Putin’s Head of State aeroplane. Inside there is a dedicated theme of tradition with a modern trend, from the diamond quilted semi aniline seats, door cards and storage insert to the leather clad roll bar and lacquered carbon fibre dashboard. The carpets are new old stock in charcoal grey perlon felt and to RS lightweight specification – a welcome neutrality against the sumptuous leather. The cabin is aptly finished with the traditional Momo Prototipo wheel, finely stitched with a silver thread to match the aluminium centre.
Although the changes are many, there is a distinct harmony between the materials used and the technical skills involved in producing this fabulous 70′s special.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The engine noise surpasses expectation as Theon have installed a new old stock engine supplied by Porsche Motorsport originally destined to race in the 993 SuperCup. It was built to RS specification with equal length stainless steel manifolds and produces just over 300hp. With a race derived engine comes an intimidating race derived idle, restrained by hunting and popping at a stand still the car sings beautifully upon test. The drivetrain is smooth and typically rewards that deliberate action through the gears.
All of the mechanicals have either been refurbished or replaced to as new using Porsche genuine parts.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
What else but the timeless Fuchs to compliment this bespoke special. The wheel design is symbolic amongst classic Porsche variants and Fuchsfelge of Germany were chosen for their unique forging process. The clipping, flow-forming and finishing of the rims is first class in terms of strength and appearance with huge dish at the rear to match the hand formed rear arches. With fresh Michelin Pilot Sport appointed to all four corners there was to be no compromise on contact patch; equally adept in both wet and dry conditions.
The brakes have been uprated, with 964 Turbo calipers to front and 930 SC calipers to rear proving more than a match for the power available. Ride and handling has been specifically developed with custom coilover suspension.
HISTORY FILE
This car began its life in 1979 as a 3.0 SC and was found carefully stored in a barn before the total re-manufacturing took place. With an open cheque book exercise, Theon set out to build the definitve resto-modification.
Having completed just over 500 miles since build, this bespoke special is as new and ready to use immediately.
