2003 Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale
Seller's description
MODEL HISTORY
Based on the 360 Modena the Challenge Stradale was a limited production track day focused car that was used to homologate improvements to their GTC race car.
Focus at Ferrari was to improve the Modena’s track lapping performance and took inspiration from the then current 360 Challenge race car by concentrating on handling, braking, weight reduction and aerodynamics essentials for any out and out racing car.
Weighing in at just 20Kg more than the challenge race car and a huge 110Kg less than a standard Modena this resulted in a dramatic performance increase, add in ceramic brakes as standard taken directly from the Enzo, a 25bhp increase in power, aerodynamic improvements to the front bumper, side sills, rear engine lid and double rear end meant the Challenge Stradale lapped the Fiorano circuit 3.5 seconds faster than the Modena (the target for the Ferrari engineers was 2.5).
Straight line power and performance figure only differ marginally from the standard Modena (three tenth faster to 62 mph) on paper which makes it difficult to comprehend the staggering difference between the two cars and it’s only when the enthusiastic driver takes to the controls does the Challenge Stradale deliver through its feedback and responsiveness.
With a limited production run of sub 1300 cars worldwide combined with an incredible soundtrack and loyal fan following, the Challenge Stradale is an instant modern classic.
EQUIPMENT
LHD, Rosso Scuderia, Tan Leather seats, Alcantara steering wheel and lower dash, Sports Catalyst, Factory uprated Ceramic brakes, Roll bar, Alcantara side sill covers.
EXTERIOR
Finished in a gleaming coat of Rosso Scuderia this Challenge Stradale remains in excellent condition and exudes its Pininfarina lines beautifully under the studio lights. With only a light dusting of stone chips and a small mark on the front bumper to show for its minimal mileage the body remains in striking order.
All of the rubber seals around the car remain fresh, soft and tear free showing little wear. The rear engine carbon fibre details excellent and the plastic window to Ferrari’s V8 masterpiece clear with only a small mark on one of the fixing points.
INTERIOR
The interior, true to its lightweight form is basic with no carpets, exposing its ridged aluminium space frame chassis and bare riveted floor pans. Slide into the carbon fibre Tan Leather clad race seats and every inch of the car points to its lightweight heritage. An alcantara steering wheel is perfectly befitting for this race inspired road car and adds to the track feel along with the fully covered alcantara dash.
Carbon fibre adorns the door cards and in the centre houses the switch gear for the cars traction control, ASR and launch control systems while proudly displaying its Challenge Stradale badge and racing flags.
Optional alcantara side sill covers and a factory fitted roll bar complete the package.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
The engine fires into life with a menacing bark and settles into a more social high idle as the exhaust valves regulate the noise and the engine warms to temperature.
With minimal mileage covered the mechanics on this car remain in fine order. A recent full service and check over has just been completed by marque specialists with a full Histogram printout showing the cars limited activity since new.
The engine pulls as it should with the exhaust valves opening at higher revs to what must be one of the best sounding engine notes, enhanced further by the sports cats to an almighty noise. Recently fitted with a new clutch the gear changes are quick at 150 milliseconds with a satisfying blip during the downshift.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The uprated carbon ceramic discs are in excellent condition with just 7% of wear recorded on the cars diagnostic systems. The 19 inch BBS wheels remain mark and curb free and are wrapped in Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres all round.
HISTORY FILE
An Italian supplied car from new, this Challenge Stradale spent much of its early life in and around the factory as a press car before being sold on privately for road use. Imported into the UK in 2013 it has had just 1 owner here.
The leather bound history pack contains all its owners manuals, service book and a host of recent invoices while in the UK ensuring the car is in perfect mechanical condition.
Both sets of keys, 2 x black and 1 x red alarm fobs are with the car along with a certificate of conformity from Ferrari.
