Seller's description

MODEL HISTORY

The ‘RS’ badge holds the greatest fascination for Porsche fans and has been applied sparingly to 6 generations of Porsche cars since the 70s instantly turning these machines into motoring legends.
First introduced in 1972 to homologate the 911 Carrera 2.7. Porsches focus has never changed throughout the decades and each RS car goes through a strict weight loss program focused on race series homologation or more recently, in creating the ultimate in track focused driving tools.
In 2003, Porsche introduced the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, an even more track-focused version of the 996 GT3.  The RS designation, the characteristic lightweight blue or red wheels and GT3 RS side stickers link the car to historically important Porsches such as the Carrera 2.7 RS of the early 1970s. The 996 GT3 RS is lighter than the 996 GT3 thanks to a polycarbonate rear window, carbon fiber hood and rear wing. Porsche Ceramic Composite Brake (PCCB), which are also more heat and fade resistant than the cast iron units fitted as standard, are optional.

The RS has a slightly different engine specification to the standard 996 GT3. The cylinder heads have reshaped intake and exhaust ports for race homologation. Porsche claim the same 381 hp power output as the standard GT3 but Porsche’s control dyno showed a jump to nearly 400 hp.The RS also has progressive springs rather than linear. The dampers are uprated and are between 10 and 15 percent stiffer than the 996 GT3 in bounce and rebound. The wheel carriers are totally redesigned to maximize the improved dynamic camber control. The suspension top mounts can be turned 120 degrees to a cup car position. Both front and rear control arms are adjustable. The RS is 3 mm lower than the 996 GT3.
The RS rear wing delivers 35 kg of downforce at 125 mph (201 km/h). It has ram air ducts on the engine bay which force air into the intake with 18mb of pressure at 187 mph and this is enough to create an additional 15 bhp. That extra bhp cannot be homologated since the official engine output figures are certified on a dynanometer.
The Porsche 996 GT3 RS had a production run from 2003 to 2005 and sits along side two other notable models, the Ferrari Challenge Stradale and BMW M3 CSL as highly collectable lightweight specials of the period. Only 140 right hand drive 996 GT3 RS cars were built by Porsche and 113 of those were officially imported into to the UK. It was not sold in the USA or Canada.

INTERIOR

The interior is very much true to function and remains a fusion of both race car and road car. The full white roll cage certainly adds the feeling that this is a serious machine that needs treating with some respect. An Alacantara steering wheel, gear stick and handbrake level add to the motorsport theme along with a fire extinguisher nestled into the passenger foot well.
Synonymous with this era of Porsche, the fabric covered bucket seats  are in perfect condition with no wear marks or tears and hug both driver and passenger tight into the seat along with the factory Schroth harnesses. The white centre console is the last basic race car inspired addition however a radio and AC provide some comforts for the road or the journey to the track.

WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES

The iconic lightweight wheels available in either red or blue depending on colour  theme are pristine with no scuffs or marks. Wrapped in Pirelli Porsche N rated tyres with recent Porsche 4 wheel geometry carried out it is no surprise that the car drives beautifully.
