Seller's description

Although his background was in engineering, Ferrucio Lamborghini was by the early Sixties a wealthy and successful industrialist who amongst other business interests made tractors. Having formed his eponymous company in 1962 he saw no reason not to produce his very own supercar. If Enzo Ferrari could then how hard could it be?!
The origins of his V-12 engine began with the brilliant yet mercurial designer Giotto Bizzarinni who rather overstepped his brief to build a road engine by delivering a dry sump race engine producing more power than was required but at higher revs. The two came to blows and Lamborghini was fortunate to recruit an incredible team among them Gian Paolo Dallara who designed the chassis and Bob Wallace, responsible for developing the cars behaviour on the road. The most important ingredient though was arguably the pen of Marcel Gandini who newly employed at Bertone aged just 27 created what is regarded as his magnum opus.

Delivered new in September 1970 to Roberto Carpanelli, the agent in Rome and friend of Ferrucio Lamborghini. The most rare of all the Miura range with only 140 models completed, the S benefited from an extra 20 hp than the standard P400 due to larger intake manifolds and re-profiled camshafts.
Having spent many years in an Italian collection this S is UK registered and represents a great opportunity to acquire a highly desirable, era defining and seminal supercar!
