1960 Aston Martin DB4

1960 Aston Martin DB4

Seller's description

When it was first unveiled, the Aston Martin’s DB4 was a tremendous step forward for the firm, and represented a technologically and aesthetically impressive car that has now reached cult status for collectors and casual enthusiasts alike. Much of this has been fueled by the substantially similar DB5’s association with James Bond, but many seasoned collectors prefer the compact dimensions and purity of the early DB4. From a technological standpoint, the car was quite impressive, with an all new 3.7 liter twin-cam inline-6, disc brakes all round, and rack and pinion steering. The bodywork, by Touring of Milan, is achingly gorgeous, and constructed in their famous Superleggera style of aluminum skin wrapped around small tube.

The Aston has been newly delivered in 1960 and was ordered by a gentlemen named Mr. Goodrich who was living at that time in Virginia in the USA. The car is therefore original left hand drive.
A rather unique detail is that the Aston had a service at 572 miles in november 1960 at garage Mirabeau in France so it could be that the Aston was not shipped to the United States.
Anyway, the car was found by it’s former owner and a full restoration has been started whereby the Aston has been brought back to a level which is probably nicer then new.
CONDITION EXTERIOR
We do not want to start to talk immediately about the condition of the exterior of the Aston Martin as the condition is off-course rather important but the lining of this car is much more important.
We do not know many cars which are looking so extremely nice as the Aston Martin DB4.
There are many discussions about the Aston Martin DB4 and DB5 as many people want to have the DB5 because of the James Bond story but collectors prefer the DB4 because the lining is nicer according to them.
Depending on your own taste everybody might agree that the looks of this Aston are just fabulous.
The body has been done extremely nice with paintwork which is done on a very high level.
The gaps are excellent and the body is very straight.
All the aluminium and chrome parts are very nice as well and this car car is just ready to go for a rally or for a concours.
CONDITION INTERIOR
We have a company in the Netherlands which carries out interior restorations on a very high level. One needs to be patient as quality takes time but if you have the time the result is amazing.
The costs are rather high for a perfect interior but the former owner did not care and wanted to have an excellent interior and the result is indeed amazing.
The carpets are extremely nice even as the leather on the seats.
Small details such as the surrounding of the dashboard are very impressive and probably nicer then new.
The headlining is made in green suede which suits the Aston very well.
BOOT/ENGINE BAY
Opening both the boot as well as the bonnet is extremely impressive. The quality of the restoration becomes even more clear. The boot is very nicely and very well detailed with the correct carpet and the engine bay is so impressively nice restored.
The engine has been completely rebuilt and this can be easily recognized when the bonnet is opened.
DRIVING EXPERIENCE
Driving an Aston Martin is special. Everybody knows the brand because of James Bond and everybody seems to love the brand.
An Aston Martin is always accepted and people enjoy seeing an Aston life on the street.
This specific example is an amazing driver but she needs to be treated with care as everything is new. The engine needs to be carefully treated in the next 4.000 kilometers but if one drives this car just for 5 kilometers it becomes already clear that she drives extremely impressive.
A DB4 is actually the first Aston built which could be driven on a daily base in our opinion because the handling is very easy.
For the continent it is off-course a huge advantage that this Aston is an original left hand drive example. But amongst this advantage, the amount of left hand drive cars made by Aston Martin is rather low which results in a huge demand for these cars.
