Ferrari needs no real introduction when it comes to fast cars, and a fast car is all to general to describe a Ferrari. Since 1948 the small car manufacturer from Maranello, Italy has always been able to captivate enthusiasts through not only extreme performance and automotive technological advances, but through a sense of passion that captivates the ultimate visceral experience unmatched by most man made creations. The Ferrari 430 Scuderia ends an era that will likely be very appreciated in the near future as elements of it may have likely seen their day and memorialize an era of Mid Engine V8 Ferrari's. The 430 can thank the 246 Dino as its ultimate idea for the concept of a production mid engine Ferrari. On to the 308/328 and a few more cylinders were added as well as all-time record high production. By the time the 348/355 were further developed the motor was turned 90 degrees and now “Speciale' “ and “Challenge” versions were constructed as Ferrari's never ending purpose to go racing pushed private sales with the ideal of track cars for the road. Raw, less-is-more sort of options (or lack there of) crested lightweight versions of already popular and fast cars. With Carbon Fiber, upgraded engine management, parts, and various other systems anyone with the healthy supply of funds was more than capable of challenging a Fiorano laptime in a special, more hardcore version of an already fantastic car.
As the 360 Challenge was constructed it really solidified Ferrari's interest in always building more extreme versions of the same car. Sales increased, speculative buyers made their purchases, as did track day enthusiasts. It was a win-win for Ferarri's accounting department and race teams. When the 430 was introduced in 2005 it was soon available in coupe' and spider format with a variety of options. Of course 430 Challenge (track-only) cars were immediately available to privateer teams and were actively apart of IMSA and the American LeMans series of races throughout Europe and the US. But it would be the duality of a track car for the road that would push the boundaries of extreme performance. In 2008 the 430 Scuderia was introduced, and with lap times better than the Enzo it was apparent that Ferrari created their most potent car yet.
The example on offer here, VIN # was delivered on 2/19/2009 to its first and only owner via Miller Motor Cars of Greenwich, CT. The original window sticker shows this Scuderia as being delivered in Mirabeau Blue over Black with 3 options: Bluetooth For Mobile Phone, Brake Calibers In Yellow, and Handly Fire Extinguisher. The total MSRP was $292,685.00 + Taxes and related fees. From new this example has been extremely well kept in a prominent North East collection and always serviced at Miller Motor Cars from new. No doubt totally in order with records.
The cosmetic condition of this car is that of a nearly new example. While 4,400 miles is not a lot of distance traveled from new, when done at very high speeds it can prove one or two of the minutest blemishes. Our only complaint is that of the rocker panels. Just behind the front wheels we have noticed some chips from high-speed travel kicking up the smallest of road debris, which can act as a sand-blaster when traveling fast enough. The blemishes are hardly noticeable unless closely inspected and are likely present on most other examples that have been used. In the interest of full-disclosure, this is worth mentioning though unlikely that it needs to be addressed. Otherwise the car is impeccable. A 3M clear bra has been attached to the front bumper, part of the hood, rockers, and A-Pillars as well. The car has been inspected with a paint meter and we have found absolutely no paintwork at all whatsoever. Additionally the car has a clean carfax and no history of any issues of any kind. The glass is also free of any sort of chips or cracks and all lighting is in excellent order with the exception of the headlights, which have the common crazing in the plastic. It is an unfortunate factory defect that both Enzo's and 430's share. There is one very small pencil sized chip on the front of the hood and one small scuff on the rear venturi on the carbon fiber. The wheels are in excellent condition and the rubber still supple and within spec to be enjoyed.
Entering the interior one can immediately note the spartan appearance and lack of comfort items. All perfectly suited for the performance oriented driver, focused on what's important; driving. The interior is new throughout with the only blemishes worthy of noting are that of some light scuffing to the carbon fiber sill where the driver's foot may braise getting in and out of the car and lower front of the door panel. It will likely buff out and is of no real concern. As such it is also the only item that can be found as a fault. The rest of the interior is new. The engine bay and front trunk are both self explanatory, both functional, new, and without any issues noted.
Driving the 430 Scuderia is an experience that will take even experienced drivers by surprise. Ensuring the Manitino dial to a safe setting will prove useful for initial understanding of what this car can do. It starts abruptly but idles smoothly and is quick to respond to even the slightest movement of the right foot. The clutch works flawlessly with only 4,400 miles it likely still has 75%+ life left. As the red dots on the steering wheel increase it becomes apparent that the 430 Scuderia is just plain too fast for any sort of road use and so a membership to the new custodian's local track should be considered. The brakes are brutal and fade free thanks to their carbon ceramic makeup and all other systems in the car function without hesitation or issue. In short, it's a new car through and through, a fast one, but new without any mechanical issues of any type.
It takes some statistics, comparative analysis, a bit of math, and of course some faith in the market, but the Ferrari 430 Scuderia should be considered a speculative contemporary investment; An investment that has the right elements to stack up against the current progressive price trends of the 355 Challenge and 360 Challenge Stradale. Included in the sale are the original books, car cover with bag, service records from new from Miller Motor Cars, original window sticker, and VIP Build Documents. A worthwhile investment and a truly intense track car for the road.
